EWS (exterior wall system) Definitions
The following definitions apply to masonry substrates including Concrete, Block, Brick, and Stucco:
CONTOUR: A traditional Type-A Exterior Insulation and Finish System (EIFS). Uses insulation board that is fastened to the substrate with an adhesive. There are no interruptive joints in the system finish.
DRM: Direct Reinforced Metal is a non-insulated system using metal lath mechanically attached to the substrate. Provides a durable maintenance free system.
DIRECT: A non-insulated system that is applied directly to the substrate. This is the most economical option of the systems described.
IMPACT: The toughest of EIFS Type-B using mechanically attached insulation foam (R-5) and a strong fabric mesh imbedded in a nominal ¼” of structural skin. Provides high impact resistance.
The following definitions apply to substrates of Exterior gypsum, Plywood & Oriented Strand Board (OSB):
CONTOUR: A traditional Type-A EIFS. Uses insulation board that is fastened to the substrate with an adhesive .
DRM: A non-insulated system using metal lath mechanically attached to the substrate.
IMPACT: The toughest of EIFS Type -B using mechanically attached insulation foam (R-5) and a strong fabric
mesh imbedded in a nominal ¼” of structural skin. Provides high impact resistance.
The following definitions apply to substrates of Cement Composite Board, Dens-glass, Wonder board, etc.:
CONTOUR: A traditional Type-A EIFS. Uses insulation board that is fastened to the substrate with an adhesive.
DRF: Direct reinforced fabric is a non-insulated wall system using woven fabric applied directly to the substrate. Very tough.
IMPACT: The toughest EIFS Type-B using mechanically attached insulation foam (R-5) and a strong fabric mesh imbedded in a nominal ¼” of structural skin. Provides high impact and fire resistance.
